Rakhi Seva Programs
Water:
Handpump repair (training and maintenance)Handpumps consist of a number of parts and over time some of these parts can become worn, damaged or corroded. Assisting Seva Mandir of Udaipur, a member of Rakhi Seva helped introduce a handpump repair program during the drought relief efforts of 2001 and 2003. Rakhi Seva will continue to work with Seva Mandir to train community members to repair damaged handpumps as part of a "clean drinking water program."
Handpump installation
Handpump wells are sanitary wells and provide clean drinking water. Where clean drinking water sources are scarce Rakhi Seva will endeavour to provide new handpump wells.
Water harvesting
Water Harvesting is an age-old practice of collecting rain water and storing it for later use. Rainwater collected from rooftops and stored in tanks built into the ground provide water for a multitude of uses such as bathing, clothes washing and watering animals. Combined with a water purification system this water can also be used for drinking. More information will be provided as this program develops.
